Fair Trade

Reviews Overview » Fair Trade

Fair trade is a fairly broad concept, interpreted in different ways by different actors. It does not help that the word "fair" is quite a normative statement, what's fair for one might not be fair for another one. The current mainstream concepts of fair trade have their roots in Europe's 60's as a social entrepreneurship and consumerism initiative. JediCreations follows the main concepts of fair trade.

We like to go further. We would like make it possible for end-consumers to pay a voluntary, specific, monetary fair trade premium for the products consumers purchase; this voluntary premium goes directly, in full, to the artisan. If you would like to champion this option for your import, wholesale or retail business, or as an end-consumer, please contact us! In the meantime, you may consider our wholesale handheld wedding parasols and wholesale wedding fans as wedding items produced under our fair trade conditions, handmade by our village artisans at commercially competitive prices.

The 'youngest headmaster in the world'

A story everyone should read. Babar Ali, at 16, teaches his fellow village kids who can't afford to go to school what he has learned every day.

World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO)

Fundamentally, the World Fair Trade Organization is a global community of pioneering and passionate change-makers, responsible for the development of the sustainable Fair Trade economy, for the good of us all.

Using internationally recognized fair trade standards, Equal Exchange, USA seeks to balance the inequities found in the conventional coffee trade. It does so by trading coffee, its own Equal Exchange way. Since the early bginnings and struggle for survival in the 80's, Equal Exchange has added tea, cocoal, sugar and dairy products to its fair trade portfolio. There's also an Equal Exchange, UK

Based in Australia, the People For Fair Trade distributes fair trade tea and coffee throughout Australia. People For Fair Trade is a voluntary network of people who are committed to fair trade with producers of goods, through the support of education and alternative trade.

The International Fair Trade Association (IFAT) is a global community of fair trade organisations. It has given itself the mission of improving the livelihoods and well-being of disadvantaged producers and lobbying for greater justice in world trade.

Social Accountability International (SAI) works to promote human rights for workers around the world. It does this together with companies, non-governmental organisations, consumer groups, trade unions and local governments. An important tool in this task is its SA8000 standard and verification system. It's main users appear to be medium-sized and larger companies.

The Social Venture Network (SVN) changes the world's business practices (stop. that should better be "makes a contribution to changing the world's business practices ") by synergising its members' collective strengths of leadership, know-how and business for a more just and a sustainable world economy. Wheras we at JediCreations share most of these aims, we've decided to postpone our application for membership until we can meet the financial requirements (in about thirty million years).

The World Crafts Council main objective is to "strengthen the status of crafts as a vital part of cultural and economic life". Being at the base of working in and with village crafts, we could not agree more with this aim, and fully support it. The Council also promotes fellowship among the craftspeople of the world and aims to offer encouragement, help and advice. Here we provide a view of its Asia Pacific Region web site.

Fair Trade Federation (FTF)

Fair Trade Federation (FTF) is the trade association that strengthens and promotes North American organizations fully committed to fair trade. Retailers and wholesalers from Canada and the US can join, after screening for fair trade principles.
