HELP: You wish to pay in another currency...
or 2Checkout has automatically converted the USD payment amount to your home currency.
We confirm that you can pay in any of the major currencies shown at 2Checkout. However, we recommend payment in our pro forma invoice currency, currently US dollars.
Why:
2Checkout's curreny exchange rate may not be as favorable as your credit card's exchange rate.
What to do:
We recommend payment in US dollars. If 2Checkout has automatically converted the payment amount to your home currency, simply click on the US flag and the US dollar amount shown will be exactly as shown in our pro forma invoice. However, if you prefer to make payment in your home currency by using the 2Checkout conversion feature, this is of course possible and you may choose to do so without further reservations.
More details: What is the reason for our recommendation?
Your credit card company is likely to give you a "better" exchange rate than 2Checkout. In other words, paying at 2Checkout in your Asian, Australian, European or South American home currency is likely to be costlier than making the payment in US dollars and allowing your credit card company to bill you in your home currency. Why so? Your home currency is always cheapest at home. When you use 2Checkout's conversion feature, 2Checkout will buy your home currency in the United States, where 2Checkout is located. This is likely to be expensive. On the other hand, when you are let's say in Australia, and make payment in US dollars, your credit card company will make the payment in the United States in US dollars and then buy Australian dollars at home in Australia. This is generally more economical.
To view current neutral currency exchange rates, we recommend » oanda.com. For transaction types, in the "interbank rate" box choose "typical credit card rate +2%". Note that your credit card company is likely to use this rate or a rate close to it plus an additional percentage for the currency transaction service.
While 2Checkout converts currencies, it does not specify the exchange rate is uses. Calculating the exchange rates based on its currency conversion results, 2Checkout appears to be using rates approximating "interbank rate +4%" or "+5%". This is relatively expensive.
